Sky Sports News’ Lyall Thomas reported on 30 August that Villa had agreed a package worth up to £30m for the centre-back. Southampton subsequently confirmed the permanent transfer on 1 September. The reported structure is £25m guaranteed, with a further £5m available through add-ons.
