Southampton Secure 5-1 Victory Over Wrexham to Claim Playoff Position

Southampton beat Wrexham 5-1 at Stok Cae Ras on April 8, 2026, moving into the Championship play-off positions.

The away win moved Saints above Wrexham and into the top six. It also gave Southampton a valuable result against a direct rival in the promotion race.

The victory comes as Southampton continue to balance their Championship promotion push with their FA Cup semifinal commitments. Having reached the last four of the FA Cup, the Saints are now fighting on two fronts as they seek to return to the Premier League.

The five goals made this one of Southampton’s best away results of the season. Wrexham scored once, but Saints created enough to put the game beyond doubt.

The result was important in the tight race for the play-offs, with Southampton taking sixth place at Wrexham’s expense. Wrexham will need to respond quickly if they are to regain ground.

For Southampton supporters, the result offers real encouragement for the final stretch of the season. Winning by four goals away from home against a direct rival says plenty about the squad’s attacking quality.

Saints must now carry that form into both competitions. Sixth place gives them a platform, but the promotion race still has plenty of work left in it.
