Oh, brilliant news, folks! The Football Association has graciously blessed us with Craig Pawson to referee our little David vs Goliath encounter against Manchester City. Because nothing screams “fair and balanced” like subjecting a Championship side to one of the Premier League’s most decorated whistle-blowers.

Pawson, who has spent his illustrious career perfecting the art of perfectly-timed yellow cards for mid-air collisions while waving play-on for actual fouls, will oversee what the powers-that-be assure us is a “crucial encounter.” Yes, because we definitely needed someone so experienced to manage the paperwork when City inevitably steamroll their way to glory.

The FA has also assembled a full VAR team—though apparently they forgot to tell us who they actually are. How wonderfully transparent of them. Nothing says “world-class officiating” like mystery companions hiding in a room somewhere, definitely making correct decisions without any bias whatsoever.

This semi-final is Southampton’s “major opportunity” to reach Wembley Stadium, assuming the officials don’t accidentally hand the trophy to Manchester City before the match even starts. The Saints will face “a formidable challenge,” which is corporate speak for “have fun getting absolutely battered.”

For Southampton supporters, we can at least enjoy watching our lads compete at the highest level of English football before the inevitable happens. And hey, at least Pawson’s appointment guarantees that any controversial decisions will be made by someone who’s definitely not going to hear the end of it on social media.

The semi-final awaits, and with experienced officials in charge, we can rest assured that justice, fairness, and Manchester City’s advancement to the final are guaranteed.
