Saints Draw Arsenal at Home in FA Cup Quarter-Final Adventure

Well, well, well. Southampton have managed to secure themselves a proper FA Cup quarter-final tie, and better yet, they’ll be hosting it at St Mary’s. The reward for seeing off Fulham 1-0 on Sunday? A cosy home date with Arsenal, because nothing says “gentle progression through the rounds” quite like facing one of the Premier League’s established powers.

Tonda Eckert’s side have earned their spot in the final eight the hard way, taking down Premier League opposition in Fulham. Arsenal, meanwhile, had the considerably less taxing assignment of dispatching League One’s Mansfield Town 2-1, which presumably involved marginally less tactical preparation.

The quarter-final will take place around the weekend of Saturday 4th April, though the powers that be are still working out the precise details of when Saints fans can witness this David versus Goliath encounter. Arsenal, of course, are no strangers to St Mary’s, having graced the south coast plenty of times over the years, most recently in last year’s Premier League meeting.

Naturally, cup success comes with its administrative headaches. The fixture congestion means Saints’ scheduled home clash with Ipswich on Friday 3rd April and their trip to Wrexham on Monday 6th April will both need rearranging. Details will follow in due course, along with information for supporters who’ve already purchased tickets – because nothing tests fan loyalty quite like constantly shifting fixture dates.

Before the quarter-final drama unfolds, Saints will return to St Mary’s after four away games with a home fixture against Norwich on Wednesday 18th March. Tickets start from £25 for adults and £15 for juniors, with previously purchased tickets remaining valid – a small mercy in these chaotic times.
