Saints Draw Ball Number One as FA Cup Quarter-Final Fate Awaits

Well, well, well. After dispatching Fulham 1-0 in Sunday’s fifth round clash, Saints have earned themselves the honour of being ball number one in Monday’s FA Cup quarter-final draw. Whether this numerical superiority translates into a favourable opponent remains to be seen, though historically speaking, being first hasn’t exactly guaranteed us an easy ride.

The draw takes place on Monday, March 9, at approximately 7.05pm, conveniently scheduled before West Ham face Brentford at London Stadium. TNT Sports will broadcast the proceedings live, with former Manchester City goalkeeper Joe Hart doing the honours. Given Hart’s 2011 FA Cup triumph, one can only hope his presence brings some of that winning magic our way.

Saints find themselves in rather distinguished company, sharing the pot with Manchester City (ball 3), Arsenal (5), Liverpool (6), and Chelsea (7). Port Vale (2) and Leeds United (4) complete the lineup, alongside whichever London club emerges victorious from the West Ham-Brentford encounter.

This marks our first quarter-final appearance since 2022, which feels simultaneously recent and like a distant memory given our recent adventures. The matches will be played around the weekend of April 4, with the Premier League kindly rearranging fixtures to accommodate our cup ambitions.

In a modern twist that removes the romantic agony of replay scheduling, any drawn matches will proceed straight to extra time and penalties. No second chances, no midweek trudges to unfamiliar grounds – just pure, concentrated drama.

Eight teams remain, each one victory from Wembley’s hallowed turf. The draw will reveal whether Saints’ path to glory runs through Manchester’s oil money or somewhere slightly more navigable. Either way, we’ve earned our place at football’s top table once again.
